One of the most fantastic garments which Masai make are their tunics. They are so easy to wear and can be transformed from smart to casual in an instant. Many of the Masai tunics are made of a specific material - viscose. So we thought we would uncover some truths about this wonderful fabric.
There are many misconceptions about viscose. Most people believe it is a completely synthetic fibre. However, viscose actually comes from the cotton plant. It is derived from the stalk of the plant, and processed to create viscose. The fibres are made from cellulose from wood pulp. It is ground up and reacted with caustic soda. Viscose rayon may be produced from a variety of plants such as soy, bamboo, and sugar cane applying the same techniques as producing viscose.
There are so many advantages to viscose. Specifically, viscose is very strong and durable, making your garment stand the test of time. This is great, especially for pieces you wish to wear every day or classic items you purchase which you will wear for years to come. It is also therefore easy to wash and care for.
Sometimes also known as rayon, viscose has a lovely feeling to it. It often feels silkier than cotton and softer in texture. It has the luxuriousness of silk and a bit more stretch , which makes it less restrictive and really comfortable. Viscose will move with you and it hangs very well from the body. This fabric also is breathable, so you can wear a gorgeous viscose tunic without becoming too overheated or sticky, which would happen with fabrics such as nylon, polyester or acrylic. This fabric has a good moisture regain ability and is biodegradable since it is technically made of a natural fibre.
Viscose can be dyed easily in several colours and easily mixes with other types of fibers allowing to make beautiful pieces of clothing in any shape or print. This fabric is a perfect example how by-pass product is used to produce so widely used and versatile product for fashion enhancing the comfort of clothing and allowing truly reflects personality and style.
