Rising River
Most of the time we're very happy to live in a village on a river. Our simple pleasures include early morning walks with the dogs along the river bank, singing the first verse of Lindisfarne's Fog on the Tyne as we cross the bridge, watching children feeding the ducks and searching for the swans down towards Riding Mill.
This weekend, however the river levels rose rapidly mainly because of heavy rain falling in the West and making its way towards Newcastle and eventually the North Sea. The water broke the banks but thankfully levels have subsided again.
Time to get a pair of Ilse Jacobsen boots on.....
