Katie came across Portugese jewelley designer Carla_M at a show in London a few months ago and was struck by her bold designs - very different to most of the jewellery we see. Carla gave up a successful career in the Portugese telecoms industry to follow her dreams and become a jewellery designer. She enrolled in the Contacto Directo Jewellery School and hasn't looked back since - she's now a driving creative force behind an amazing jewellery brand that can be found in 22 countries.
Her strapline is "Jewellery Inspired by Matter" and that describes perfectly the handwriting of this brand. She takes industrial and often overlooked materials and designs them into elegant, light and comfortable necklaces. It is inspiring to see aluminium and rubber reconstructed into a piece of jewellery which is not only unique but elegant.
The juxtaposition between fine jewellery and tougher materials creates the aesthetic of Carla M jewellery. The result is jewellery which is feminine with a contemporary edge.
