International Women’s Day 2018

International women’s day is a funny thing isn’t it? Wouldn’t it be great though, if we didn’t have to have a “women’s day”, that is, if it wasn’t necessary ?.

100 years ago, because of a group of intelligent, courageous and selfless women the first women won the right to vote in the United Kingdom….unthinkable now. My Grandmothers were independent minded women, both had their own businesses and both taught me that nobody is better or more important than anyone else regardless of their sex. They fostered a belief that having my own opinions and making my own choices is a freedom that is my right. The courage of previous generations means that today I can have my own business.

My daughter plays rugby for the North of England. She is strong and fit and enjoys all aspects of competitive sport, she feels no inequality between her and her rugby playing brother which makes me feel so proud of both of them.

Across the world, all women are not as fortunate as me and my hope on this International women’s day is that one day, they will.
